About Us

Our
Story

Rhythm of Memory is a nonprofit organization comprised of students who are passionate about connecting our community through dance and smiles. Amidst the growing distance between older and younger generations, our organization aims to bridge the gap through the emotional and medical powers of dance.

Our organization visits dementia centers, care centers, senior houses, and senior centers to run dance programs. Our members prepare and choreograph dances that are adapted to senior mobility based on thorough scientific research. Our dances aim to bring bright smiles to faces, reduce the risk of dementia through movement, and bridge the gap between the generations in our community.

Our founder is Jiwon (Amy) Hwang, a 12th-grade student at Kent School from South Korea. She is interested in dementia, elders, dance, as well as policy-making. To found this program, she has established the foundation of the program's academic background. She has also been trained to be a "Dementia Partner" in Korea after 5 hours of training; she is certified to teach others about dementia.
